Two New Tea Towel Designs

"Blue Leafy Triangles"
(my own design)
"Bakery Trellis"
(my own design)

May I present completed
tea towel tops 'two-by-two',
both of my own design.

Here they are in their
 natural habitats.

You may remember their beginnings back in September:

I am planning individual posts for each of them with more detailed photographs to show the patterns more clearly.

I had worked on identical towels in the past (2011) but this year's towels have different tops. It is fun to play around with different options for a towel's design. It is fascinating that relatively minor changes can have a significant effect on the final look.

I am very pleased with 2014's results;
so pleased that I could not wait to give the "Blue Leaf" towel to a close friend who had moved into a new home.

Her response:

"I love it! So pretty and useful :-) "

The only problem now is that I forgot to take a detailed photograph of her blue towel before I gave it to her!  The photos shown here were kindly taken by my friend in her kitchen and sent to me via phone.

When I next get a chance to visit my friend's home, I will make sure to take a photo of the towel laying flat to show the pattern. That is why I hope to do a separate post for each of these towels.

Through Kathryn Vercillo's Crochet Concupiscence Link Love post for November, I discovered another post about crocheted tea towel tops by Rebecca of ReveDreams where Rebecca 'Reve' shares two of her latest towel tops and gives detailed explanation of her process.

    1. Me too. I think it is the most integrated with the towel colours and design. I love the delicate effect of the lace.

    1. Thank you Gillian, you are also being very diplomatic by not singling one out as one you like best! hehehe! It is a good project for using any special buttons that you may wish to show off as well.

    1. Those personal touches make the difference between a 'house' and a 'home'. What are your favourite colours and styles for the kitchen? Although towels like these are also handy in the bathroom, laundry, shed, anywhere you might need to wipe your hands. I often hang one on my little trolley that sits by my bedside.

  5. Hi Jodie! I've not seen towels made like this before, though I do remember you mentioning about them previously! I like the brand new blue one best!!! Your lucky friend! <3

  6. Thanks, Ingrid. :-)
I like the way the variegated blue thread matched the towel a lot better than the navy.
The navy one needs a bottom edging or border to balance it. Ah, we live and learn, and the towel is still functional regardless.
Maybe if it is "such an Australian thing" and you have not seen towels like this before, perhaps I should do something about it. My friend who got the blue one has been encouraging me to set up an online shop at Etsy sometime. Maybe I should make these designs the first thing there. Patterns, finished towels or both? I fear another learning curve is approaching!

  8. Hello from Texas!
    Are your patterns available?
I've got about 15 primed, but need new ideas. I reverse engineered a set I'd inherited n loved the results. I found your blog thru Pinterest :)
    Happy Crocheting ❣

    1. Hi Rhonda,

I'm so pleased to meet another Texan friend. Thank you for letting me know how you came to find Lupey Loops. Part of starting this blog was an experiment to settle a debate about how far the Internet can spread one's words. It's fascinating and useful to find out how people discover Lupey Loops.

I'm afraid I am not that active on Pinterest any more - with my slow internet, Pinterest was getting to be a real "time-suck."

My tea towel patterns are still in draft form. This year's goal is to get my draft patterns into a form suitable for publishing and sale because there has been so much interest.

I am working on setting up a Lupey Loops Etsy shop and maybe a Ravelry designer shop too. (Almost there). Do you have a purchasing preference, Rhonda?

2017 has brought a number of setbacks and interruptions to my plans so I ask you to be patient. I will certainly announce new patterns and shop opening on Lupey Loops.

You sound like you are always on the lookout for new ideas. You must have made plenty of tea towels! Clever you for being able to reverse engineer the ones you were given. Do you make them for your own use or do you sell your handiwork as well?

Towels like these are so useful and it is good to know how to crochet so we can make them for ourselves. Thank you so much for your interest.
      All the best,
      Jodie

  9. I sure hope you do, they are gorgeous! I've used both with a Crochet preference with Ravelry. I've never sold the towels, only hats n that was kinda pushed upon me. I mostly gift everything or keep for home use. I'm a caregiver and it gives me something to do during the down time.
I'll be looking forward to seeing your designs and hope to see even more. :)
