Christmas Smiles

Merry Christmas!

 May your day be
happy and bright.

For some extra Christmas cheer, let me introduce you to a crafty character that is bound to 'put a smile on your dial.'

Handmade Christmas angel with a paper and cardboard roll body, gold pipe cleaner arms,
a ping pong ball head with googly eyes, paper doily wings and gold tinsel on top!

How can you look at this Christmas angel and not smile?

One of my children made it in kindergarten many years ago.
I just love the funny facial expression.
It never ceases to delight.

Our family's Christmas tree has a large glittery gold star that looks very grand and sophisticated and, when atop our tree, nearly touches the ceiling—quite impressive and yet it hasn't seen service for some years.

That's because we can't get past this funny little angel.
She's a little bit cross-eyed and getting on in years but,  despite being a bit 'down in the doily department', she wins first choice as family favourite every time and has pride of place on top of the tree again this year.

Her charm, together with the memories she carries, warms our hearts and lifts our spirits. This Christmas, I hope she does the same for you.

Wishing you joy, peace and love this Christmas.

I will leave you with a photo from my Christmas Eve in Lobethal, South Australia.  Every Christmas, the entire town lights up for a spectacular and popular display.

Many sights to enjoy at this home.
Apart from the obvious lights in the garden, the window sill was filled with intricate miniatures, all lit and some had moving parts; e.g. miniature houses, a moving ferris wheel and a Christmas tree with moving figures ice skating underneath.
The Nativity scene was framed with a red ribbon as a gift box with a big 'tag' in the window which says
"God's gift to all!" and the angel's wings and head moved.
A red letterbox on the front porch automatically opened and closed.

The driveway was all about Santa's deliveries: an Aussie Father Christmas delivering presents in a ute* instead of a sleigh; Father Christmas and his reindeer; and a giant inflatable Santa overseeing proceedings!
A star-topped signpost pointed the way to "Star", "Baby", "Peace", "Family" and "Christmas"

*ute: a utility vehicle with a two-seater cab in front and tray in the back.

What are your holiday traditions?
Enjoy!

  2. Wishing you and your family a peaceful happy Christmas. It is just my husband and I this year - a little tree is up, we took the great nieces and nephews to see some Christmas lights and last night we went caroling. A small roast for dinner tomorrow and enjoying the lights, a little champagne and of course knitting!

    1. THank you for your Christmas wishes, Mary-Anne. It looks like you have had a beautiful Christmas, full of tradition and Christmas spirit. How many of you are there in your carolling group? That sounds like fun. Do you raise money for charity or just for the love of spreading Christmas cheer? (Apologies if you have blogged the answers to my questions and I haven't got to them yet.) Your Christmas plans sound very organised, gentle and relaxing. It warms my heart to think of what you are doing and how lovely it is. So nice! xx

    2. It was just 5 of us carolling this year. and we just do it for fun and to create Christmas spirit all around. We had a nice boxing day dinner with our friend who was orphaned this Christmas (her mom had to be in the hospital) so she bought a small turkey and we brought our leftover vegies and of course chocolate. It was a lovely evening.

    3. Boxing Day wins my vote for the most relaxed day of the year. It was nice that your friend did not spend it alone and you had a lovely, relaxed evening.

    1. Compliments of the season to you too, Tammy. Thank you for your online friendship and kindness. You have always been supportive. It has been difficult to keep up to date with the blogosphere during the lead-up to Christmas but I hope to do that during this quiet time between Christmas and New Year. All the best to you and your family. xx

    1. Merry Christmas to you too, Tamara. Did you get snow this year or have you escaped that? I thought I heard some news that there was an unseasonal snowfall in Texas(?).
I'm hoping to catch up on all the blogging news that I missed while petitioning, politicking and somehow preparing for Christmas amidst the hectic pace of events. This year has pushed me way out of my comfort zone, emotionally and physically, so Boxing Day heralds a time for rest. All the sleep I've missed all year is catching up with me now!
I'm looking forward to New Year and hoping to be recharged by then. Happy holidays, Tamara! xx

    1. Thank you for your kindness, Helen. I would hardly call your blog erratic though. "Quality over quantity" I say. Ilove your blog nickname by the way!
