Simple Stashbusters

This project is simpler than it looks.
Sometimes life becomes complicated–too many demands, activities, people, places, things, expenses, deadlines and other pressures!

This is when the fancy, challenging, thought-intensive crochet needs to be set aside in favour of easy, meditative projects.

"Simplify" is the operative word and that extends to my crochet environs as well–I am in danger of acquiring a condition called 'SABLE': Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy. *

An Awesome Craft Bag!

Front of Bag
Lift the flap to access the
large outside pocket.

I've been so busy with petitions and parades that there has barely been any time for blogging so today I will keep it short and sweet (yeah, yeah, you've heard that before), I promise!

Have a look at this awesome craft bag that a family member gave me for my birthday earlier this year.  If you are wondering what to get a crafty friend for Christmas, you could do a lot worse than this; after all, you can never have too many bags to store and tote your crochet projects.

Royal Adelaide Show Results 2017

Here are my entries for the 2017 Royal Adelaide Show:

A collage of four separate photographs. The mini backpack is being worn against a black shirt, the broomstick lace scarf is folded showing the green and gold fringe. A green cutting mat is in the background. An excerpt of the tea towel top photo which appears later in the blog entry; and the silk mohair scarf hanging on a coathander as if it were around someone's neck with the floral fringe hanging down.
(From left:) Mini Backpack, "Love My Green & Gold" broomstick lace rainbow scarf, "Wine Grapes" tea towel top and "Fantasy Floral" silk mohair scarf.

Hooray! My first shower gel hanger has been revised. I sat myself down with the graph paper and properly worked out a neat join for chain mesh in the round.  The much-improved pattern (and chart) is now here for you to use!

Shower Gel Hanger

The orange mesh shower gel drawstring bag is hanging on the bath spout with a small bottle of shower gel inside.

In my flurry of Christmas gift making, I decided that the shower gel container needed a holder or caddy of some sort to make it easy to reach while in the shower or bath.

1 Week, 3 Projects!

The week leading up to Christmas was very busy with last-minute crocheted gifts. I surprised myself by making three items from start to finish in one week!

Procrastinate Now!

The top strap section of a tea towel top worked in a plum colour.
Almost finished tea towel top!
The school term has finished and I'm settling into a more relaxed pace with more time to crochet but I have to ask myself, "If I want to get the crocheted projects done in time for Christmas Day, why am I getting out the sewing machine?"

How to Add a Lining to a Bag

Sewing machine, materials and tools arranged on a cutting mat: quilter's rule, pin cushion with pins, a reel of sewing thread, a swatch of cotton quilting fabric, a rotary cutter, pair of scissors, steel rule and the WIP Project bag.Adding a fabric lining is my last step to complete Janet Brani's WIP Project Bag–a crocheted drawstring bag which converts to a backpack.

Why bother with a lining?  This post provides good reasons for lining crocheted bags and shows my method step-by-step.

A Quick WIP Round

The last month has been extremely hectic around here so if you haven't seen me online for a while, it is because I haven't been online for a while.  I 'ditched' the computer and got busy.

Here's a quick whip-round of what I have been doing (WIPs* included) …

How to Turn a Drawstring Bag into a Backpack

Crocheted drawstring bag laid flat. This useful drawstring bag is just the right size for a take-along crochet project.

It becomes more useful when carried on your back, keeping hands free for riding a bike, wheeling a chair or holding on for dear life on crowded public transport!

Hold little ones' hands as you stroll to the park where they can play and so can you (with your crochet)!

This is how Janet Brani's "WIP Project Bag" pattern changes a simple drawstring bag into a convenient backpack.

WIP Project Bag: Progress Photos At Last!

Way back in January, I started work on a little bag.
A ball of multicoloured sock yarn (red and yellow mix) with a crochet hook stuck between the label and the yarn. Attached to the ball of yarn is the beginnings of a striped bag. All are resting on a photocopied page of the pattern instructions which shows a photo of the finished product.
I chose a variegated sock yarn from my stash
to highlight the stitch pattern.

A 'Drafty' Mind as the Fog Lifts

Windowsill looking out to a trellis (left to right) green plant in white pot, glass jar containing crochetd poppies, terracotta-coloured windowbox with geranium foliage, statue of boy with bunnies.
A jar of crocheted poppies
between the pot plants

Has it truly been two weeks since the last blog entry? That's what happens when life gets hectic (and when one loses an entire week to being crook) but I managed to get so much done regardless!

A Bad Case of …

This week I have been suffering from a bad case of … 'Start-itis'!

Three new crochet project beginnings. From left to right: Purple tie/belt for Belcarra Cardigan, WIP project bag in stripey yellow, red and green sock yarn, lime green baby blanket in DK acrylic.
Three projects started all at the same time!
