Delayed Decisions and Finished at Last!

A hand towel hangs from the crossbar handle of a kitchen stove. The towel is made from a folded tea towel and a crocheted top is attached which buttons over the handle. The crocheted top is purple to match the coloured text on the tea towel which says 'grapes'.

This tea towel top is one of those 'secret projects' mentioned last month in "Too Soon to Tell"
(Lupey Loops blog entry, 20 August 2017).

It is my own design and it took ages to finish, mainly because of slow decision-making– agonising over the choice of pattern for the border.

A Quick Blanket Teaser!

Cool pastel grey blue satin underneath a strip of crocheted fabric, the centerpiece of which is a teddy bear's brown face on a white square with a blue border. The horizontal strip is made of three squares joined together in a row with only the centre one showing in full. The satin can be seen above and below the teddy bear square fabric.

If you are following the progress of the baby blanket with the satin backing,  rest assured, progress is being made!

Sewing needle in hand, I'm pleased with the way the satin backing is joining the crocheted blanket and I shall leave you with a quick new picture:

Blue Skies and Blue Satin

Blue satin hanging on the washing line, viewed from beneath. A blue sky with white clouds can be seen behind the satin. Other shapes in the background include the edge of a fence along the bottom, a roof ridge in the bottom left corner and also the tips of some lavender flowers in the bottom left foreground in front of the fence.
Blue like the sky,
Pretty in the breeze.

My baby blanket has been at a standstill.
The hold-up? Fabric to line the reverse side.

How hard do you think it could be to find some basic satin in pastel baby colours?

Put on a Happy Face

A happy teddy face.
What a cheeky grin!

I was in the middle of making faces when the news came through that baby might be born within 24 hours!

That will teach me to get distracted and procrastinate. The Teddy Blanket was not ready at all!

Crochet to Extend Life

Close-up photo of the two border patterns, juxtaposed diagonally. The top has a filet pattern of two open squares followed by a closed square. This is repeated row on row to give an effect of 1-square wide columns and spaces between them that are 2 squares wide, with a solid filet border of tr around the outside edge. The bottom filet crochet border has a chequerboard arrangement of open and solid squares. The outside edge is a round of open filet squares and a round of solid dc.
Crochet is not only a fun creative activity, but also a practical skill that can save you money.

If you are interested in recycling and re-using, making do and mending, to both save money and care for the environment, you will be pleased to discover that crochet can add years of extra usefulness to household items.

A busy time

When a run of good health occurs, I can't help but make the most of it by getting busy!

A view across the valley from Mount Lofty Botanic Garden. The hills in the distance are covered in bush and cultivated land. The autumn leaves range in colour from reds to greens.

Procrastinate Now!

The top strap section of a tea towel top worked in a plum colour.
Almost finished tea towel top!
The school term has finished and I'm settling into a more relaxed pace with more time to crochet but I have to ask myself, "If I want to get the crocheted projects done in time for Christmas Day, why am I getting out the sewing machine?"

How to Add a Lining to a Bag

Sewing machine, materials and tools arranged on a cutting mat: quilter's rule, pin cushion with pins, a reel of sewing thread, a swatch of cotton quilting fabric, a rotary cutter, pair of scissors, steel rule and the WIP Project bag.Adding a fabric lining is my last step to complete Janet Brani's WIP Project Bag–a crocheted drawstring bag which converts to a backpack.

Why bother with a lining?  This post provides good reasons for lining crocheted bags and shows my method step-by-step.

Re-Cycle: Bike Shorts!

Black, short-mid thigh length bike shorts laid flat.

Crochet projects weren't the only projects this week–
the sewing machine got a run to turn a shabby pair of leggings into some neat bike shorts.
