Scrappy Lucky Dog

A crocheted dog sits surrounded by small balls and skeins of scrap yarn in different colours. The dog is light brown with a black patch on one ear and white patches on two feet and on its tail.
Crocheted puppy plays with scraps of yarn.

Moving house?
Cleaning out?
Going overseas?

Got a stash to sort?

Here's a cute stashbuster!

An Awesome Craft Bag!

Front of Bag
Lift the flap to access the
large outside pocket.

I've been so busy with petitions and parades that there has barely been any time for blogging so today I will keep it short and sweet (yeah, yeah, you've heard that before), I promise!

Have a look at this awesome craft bag that a family member gave me for my birthday earlier this year.  If you are wondering what to get a crafty friend for Christmas, you could do a lot worse than this; after all, you can never have too many bags to store and tote your crochet projects.

Another brand new gorgeous baby has joined the family circle.

With every new baby, must come a new crocheted blanket!

Happy Photos

If you think this blanket looks cute …

A square baby blanket comprised of 9 squares, all white except for the centre square which is yellow. Each square has a blue border and a tan teddy bear face in the middle. The teddies have three dimensional ears stitched onto the surface of the blanket. The outside border of the blanket is crocheted in yellow with a row of filet crochet and ending with a scalloped edge. White satin ribbon is woven through the filet spaces.

… you should meet its new owner!

A Melancholy Mothers' Day

A Mothers' Day card, home-made of light blue card. Three flowers are lined up side by side. The stems are drawn with green pencil. The flower heads are made of paper circles which have scalloped edges folded upwards to make petals raised above the card. Each flower head has a flat centre glued against the card. From left to right the flowers are orange, red and yellow with the centre red flower slightly taller than the other two.
My children made me this card for Mothers' Day 2017.
The home-made ones are always the most precious,
don't you think?

The second Sunday in May is Mothers' Day in Australia.

While celebrating Mothers' Day with my own family last Sunday, there was another mum in my thoughts.

Stashbusting to a Deadline

You think you have all the time in the world …

the baby's due date is months away …

and then Expectant-Mum's-Best-Friend casually mentions that the pregnancy is already 37 weeks along …

37 weeks already !

(sound of shocked crochet hook crashing to the floor)

That's not much time at all until baby is due to arrive and I haven't even started on that blanket I plan to make for him!

Simple Crocheted Finger Puppets & Lupey Long-distance Gifts

A wrapped Christmas gift with a red bow on top has a small simple finger puppet standing in front of it. The puppet has black hair, black dot eyes, a red smile and stripes on the body, from neck to bottom edge: green, blue red.

Once upon a time, there were two little children, a girl and a boy. The girl was 2 years of age and her brother was almost 6 months old.

These darling children are very much loved by a large family with lots and lots of cousins–an ample supply of playmates.

The children have regular contact with most of their cousins but there are some that live more than 1000 kilometres away! (That's me and my family.)

Christmas and birthdays present a challenge when choosing 'long-distance' gifts. I'm here to share my pattern for crocheted finger puppets and to explain how they were the perfect choice for two young children and their cousins at Christmas (2016).

Beach Days & Birthdays

View from the shore of Brighton Jetty and beach with the sun setting on the horizon.
Jetty sunset.

I've always loved the beach. It is one of my favourite places. Sadly, it is not always the best thing or the easiest thing for me to go down to the beach. Nevertheless, I managed to get to the beach twice: to watch sailing and see the sunset.

Dotty Hand-warmers

'Getting busy' with fingerless mitts.

At last, a finished project to share!

When I 'got busy' earlier this month, it included crocheting some fingerless mitts for a deserving young man.

Tricot Tableware Complete: Happy Anniversary!

Today I wish special loved ones

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

for it was on this day three years ago that we celebrated their marriage at Dee Why beach.

Part of my gift was a set of 'breakfast placemats'
as a memento of their special day.

This blog entry features the finished items and technical details about my tricot design (Tunisian crochet) such as taming curled edges, a common issue with tricot fabric.

An introduction to this project can be found in the blog entry, "Tricot Tableware - a Special 'Tunisian' Crochet Project" (11 March 2016). Information about my choices of project, fibre and reasons for tricot are explained, along with some photos of my inspiration, Dee Why beach (New South Wales).

Tricot Tableware - a Special 'Tunisian' Crochet Project

Crochet in progress on a long double-ended tricot hook is laid out on a beach towel next to a crocheted bag. The scene is a sandy beach looking across the water which has no surf, just gentle foam lapping at the shoreline.
Blissful crochet on the beach.
More beach weather this week:  34°C today with 37°C forecast across the working week. Why not continue the beach theme?  Especially after Kwokkie Doll donned her 'Bondi Bikini'!

Back in 2013, I designed a very personal and special tricot* project which had a few extra challenges and learning opportunities.

Shower Gel Hanger

The orange mesh shower gel drawstring bag is hanging on the bath spout with a small bottle of shower gel inside.

In my flurry of Christmas gift making, I decided that the shower gel container needed a holder or caddy of some sort to make it easy to reach while in the shower or bath.

1 Week, 3 Projects!

The week leading up to Christmas was very busy with last-minute crocheted gifts. I surprised myself by making three items from start to finish in one week!

AKA Amigurumi

Kwokkie Doll wearing a red Christmas hat with a jingle bell on top, a red jacket over a black top and a black skirt covered in colourful polka-dots. She is wearing black sandals. She has long black hair which is tied up in a ponytail. Her button eyes are black with embroidered eye lashes. Her embroidered mouth is red.
My name is Kwokkie Doll
a.k.a. AKA Amigurumi!
(Made by Jodiebodie 2013)
G'day!

It's me again, in my Christmas hat, wishing everyone hope and goodwill for the holiday season and beyond.

I first popped up on Lupey Loops at Christmas in 2013.

Do you remember?  Jodiebodie promised to give me a blog entry all to myself.  I thought she was going to introduce me properly in April 2014 but that must have been an April Fools' joke because nothing more ever came of that.
How disappointing.

Not to worry! I am here to tell you myself!
My name is "Kwokkie Doll" and this is my story …
