Messy to the Max

Close up of Tri-colour Dutch rabbit in white, orange and black.

Meet Max …

Now my living room is a happy, loving, bouncy, furry mess!

A tri-colour Dutch rabbit plays on an old quilted bunny rug in front of an open rabbit hutch which is flanked by a litter tray on one side and bags of paper shavings and hay on the other. Bits of hay, paper shreddings and newspaper are scattered across the floor.

    1. He is very bright too! I'm glad you came to have a look at him. He is seven weeks old in these pictures. It's like having a toddler in the house again having to bunny-proof everything but he is already revealing his personality.

  2. He is adorable! We have our rabbit outside but he does come in and join us indoors quite often, they are just so friendly :-) x

    1. Yes, they are very sociable. What type of rabbit do you have and what is its name?
Max's hutch is indoors to reduce the risk of catching myxomatosis which is carried by mosquitoes. There is no vaccine for 'myxy' in Australia as it is used as a biological control for feral rabbits. Max is quarantined indoors until his calici vaccinations become effective.
In the meantime, he is a 'house rabbit' who enjoys sitting by the glass doors, looking out., when he is not playing with the children or being smothered with cuddles.

    1. He wiggles his nose to say 'hello' back, and he will run circles around your feet if he is especially pleased to see you!

    1. He is very sweet, and eager to please - he is already getting the hang of the toilet training, but the flipside of being a clever bunny and quick learner is that he can be mischievous too! It is lovely that he has received such a warm welcome from everyone.

    1. Max is funny! I wish you could come and meet him. He was chasing my daughter the other day making a funny honking sound. That means he was excited to see her! Max is a very vocal bunny. He has met many new people since arriving at our house and is quite sociable and happy to receive pats.

    1. Same to you Géraldine! Pets are so lovely. I hope we all have a long, loving relationship with our pets. I am sure Max would come and nudge you (and everybody) to say hello if he could meet you in person.

    1. Like all young animals, it can be a lot of extra work in the early days - we have to be more attentive to catch good and bad behaviour as it happens but as he learns, it will get easier. He is so curious, it is hard to keep up with him sometimes!
