Showtime!

The gates to Sydney’s Royal Easter Show opened yesterday plus
entries are now open for the Royal Adelaide Show.

Sydney Royal Easter Show is from 12‒23 April 2019 and this year is my first ever entry to this major show with a slouchy beanie crocheted with the broomstick lace technique.  I’m told competition is fierce at the Sydney Royal because of the multitude of entries.  If my entry gets selected for display, I will consider it a success.

According to the Easter Show’s  information:

“Notification of Exhibits that are
NOT selected for Display will be issued
by Monday 8 April to the email address
provided at the time of entry.”

I have not received any email correspondence from the Royal Easter Show since receiving my entry pack.  I can only assume that my piece has been selected!  Wow!  I’m very happy and satisfied with that result.

I am still in Adelaide and won’t get to see my hat on display in Sydney so if you happen to get to the Royal Easter Show at Sydney Olympic Park, please would you do me a favour and take a photo of the display if you find it. Thank you!

Here's a picture!

A collage of two photographs side by side. Left is the horizontally striped rainbow slouched beanie laid flat. Right is a top view showing the crown where nine broomstick lace loops form a star or daisy shape around a central round eyelet. The stripes are made of broomstick lace loops. The colours recure in a basic sequence of light blue-dark blue-llight blue - green - yellow / orange - red - yellow / orange - green.

I love the stretchy ribbing and the pretty round pattern on the crown.

The Royal Adelaide Show (30August‒8 September 2019) has some special entry classes just for this year as part of its Queen Victoria Challenge across a range of handicrafts and a special prize for Best Overall Queen Victoria Challenge Exhibit in Show.  The idea is to recreate Victorian patterns. For example, Class 453: Queen Victoria Challenge – Crochet is for “Victoriana crochet such as collars and cuffs, reticule, mittens & gloves, shawl, shrug, smoking cap, pence jugs, Fair Isle or milk jug covers.”

More information about the other classes and crafts are on the Royal Adelaide Show website: https://theshow.com.au/show-entries/competitions/handicrafts/
Entries close 21 June 2019.

Have you ever entered your handiwork in a show?

    1. Thanks so much, Michelle. Going to a show with little ones is a completely different experience. If you do go, I hope you have fun and don't wear yourself out.

  2. Wow, how exciting! I am not too surprised though, you really do the loveliest work! The colours and structure of the hat is super. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. My fingers are failing me and I fear this will be my last big Paper piecing project, here's crossing my sore fingers hoping I do finish it 😅! A very happy Easter to you and your family. Blessings, Pam in Norway

    1. Thank you for your kind compliments, Pam.
I'm so sorry about your fingers. May they see you through to the end of the project. I am useless with any hand sewing - my clumsy fingers always end up bleeding from accidentally sewing my fingers instead of the fabric so I admire your abilities. I can only imagine the fear and uncertainty you must be feeling about the possibility of losing dexterity or function in your fingers due to pain etc. Please keep us up to date on how you are going. Good luck and happy crafting and Happy Easter to you too! :-)

    1. Thank you Liberty Belle. I'm glad you like my hat design. The result of hard work and passion as much as talent. I hope the judges like it too!
      ;-)
